In continuation of the "Clean Start, Bright Future" sanitation initiative, the Executive Chairman of Iru-Victoria Island LCDA, Hon. Aminat Oluwakemi Alabi, today conducted a follow-up inspection of previously identified black spots across the LCDA.
One of the key locations visited, Lucy Akpabio Street (popularly known as Kasuwa), which was flagged for urgent intervention during last month's sanitation exercise, was again inspected. While partial cleaning of the drainage system had taken place, the Chairman expressed dissatisfaction with the level of compliance.
Speaking during the inspection, Hon. Alabi emphasized that environmental health and cleanliness remain non-negotiable under her administration. She issued a clear directive that the drainage must be fully cleared before Monday next week, and instructed the Environmental Health team to carry out continuous monitoring to ensure long-term cleanliness and safety in the area.
Community stakeholders present at the inspection attributed the recurring sanitation issues to the evening conversion of the area into an informal market space, which results in the improper disposal of waste materials such as nylons, plastics, and food remnants eventually clogging the drainage.
The Executive Chairman was accompanied on the inspection by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Taofeek Afolabi Abiola; the Head of Environmental Health Services, Sanitarian Aminu Jamiu Mayowa; and other senior management staff.
This follow-up underscores the administration's firm commitment to the ACHIEVES manifesto, with a clear focus on Health, Environment, and Accountability ensuring that every initiative delivers visible and lasting impact across all communities within Iru-Victoria Island LCDA.
